My Sons Want to Create Anime

My sons are manga readers and anime watchers. They have been (slowly) teaching themselves to draw manga using how-to art instruction books.

They have enjoyed taking film-making classes doing live filmmaking and editing at The Jacob Burns Film center in Pleasantville, New York. The downside to those classes was they were taught to use very expensive professional software programs that we would never purchase for home use due to the high cost, so their live film-making adventures have been put on hold. They offer cartooning classes also. The commute is an hour each way which is time-consuming. The classes are too expensive for my sons to take year round, truly it would make more sense for them to do filmkaking on their own at home, however we don’t own any film editing computer software (yet). Some kids we know are doing film editing using a Mac but we are not a Mac family.

Meanwhile, they also wanted to dive into creating anime (cartoon) movies. I thought this software: Anime Studio 7  would be a good fit for them since it is compatible with our Windows-based home computer system. (This software is compatible with both Windows and Mac.)

This program uses the computer and a mouse. No additional equipment is needed.

The Amazon Vine program offered me a review copy of this software. I tested it as did my ten year old son. It has a beginner mode which is simple to use and it is inexpensive: between what one and two hours of instruction at the film center costs!

Thanks so much for the heads up about this product. My daughter is also crazy about everything manga and has been drawing both on paper and computer for a couple of years. This looks like a great gift for her. Headed over to your other blog to read the review.

I think it is great that your boys want to create some anime movies.

My kids got into making stop-action movies with their Legos. I am sure there are batter/fancier products we could have bought, but the Windows Movie Maker that came with the computer worked well for our needs.

A guy I used to babysit when I was a teen has an anime band called LeetStreet Boys. He actually makes some decent money moonlighting at it, believe it or not!
