This is Tori Amos, one of my favorite musicians performing a cover "Smells Like Teen Spirit".
I was never a Nirvana fan and when the song came out my then-cousin teenager loved this song. The only line that resonated with me back then was "here we are now, entertain us" which sums up the mindset of many teenagers in America. However when Tori Amos released the cover, I was already a fan of hers, and her performance of both the lyrics and the tempo change and piano, brought a different level of appreciation for Kurt Cobain's poetic lyrics.
Now that I have a teenager, these lyrics are coming across a little different to me, I'm noticing more the confessions of inner thoughts of a teenager, feeling stupid, for example and "Oh well, whatever, nevermind".
If you've never heard this or never heard Tori Amos please give a listen. I've never seen Tori live (a dumb move on my part); I'm impressed with watching her perform in this video also, it adds another level.
