Free Current Events Teacher Materials Online

Izzit.org has a teacher section on their website for current events. It includes working link and also full text of one news stories on one topic. (You read the articles online free using the link they provide. I note that some of the newspapers that normally only allow members to view their article are able to be accessed through the izzit link without restrictions.)

The articles are from a variety of big name newspapers (not just one newspaper with one bias).

The articles have a broad range of topics they are not politics and major news events. It seems to me these sometimes raise questions about things that some people assume are good, showing perhaps a flaw or loophole in the system or process. Some have ethical questions.

To give you an idea for the range, the topics for this last week are:

There are questions for discussion to use with students. These are often of high interest to kids or they are controversial topics.

The lesson plan sometimes includes a list of vocabulary words which can be used for vocab OR just to make sure the kids know the meaning so they can understand the article.

These lessons are online for ONE WEEK ONLY. They provide a PDF file for you to save or print for future use.

Accessing the Lesson Plans

You may sign up on the website to have these links delivered to you by email or you may access them by visiting the website. You do not need to login to view the lesson plans.

Izzit Videos

Teachers and Homeschool Parents Take Note---

You may join the site free and request one free DVD to be sent to them by mail. These are about 20 minutes long and show an alternate view on a topic. They are intended for classroom use. You then do a review of the video on the site.

After I did that with one video, they offered me another video free for a review on the site.

Your blog is very clever and full of information. Your blog somehow pulled me in, I have been reading your blog for 15 minutes! You have fabulous information and links on your blog.
I was searching for information on the Scout "bragging vest" for my sons scout uniform. Your blog link came up.
I did not want to embarrass him by putting the patches in the wrong place.. then again!!
Keep up the information on free stuff for teachers. I am not a home school mom, but I will forward your blog postings to my sons teachers. Ann in Phoenix.
