My favorite chocolate candy is made by La Maison du Chocolat. My husband knows this. He is the one who bought me some for Valentine's Day one year, on the recommendation of his female boss who said it was the ultimate to-die-for gift for chocoholics.
There were some years when gourmet chocolate was not in the budget. There were years when my husband was not in the vicinity of one of their retail shops.
However last year he did mention that, oh, he was right next to one while in Manhattan, and he thought of how much I loved them, considered buying some, then kept walking and didn't buy me any. Mistake. Big mistake. Husbands, never tell your wife you thought of something thoughtful to do for them then decided not to. Not good. No, it's not advised. Don't do that.
There is a big difference between deciding not to do something thoughtful (when the other person doesn't know what they missed out on) and telling them they considered doing that nice thing for you then decided not to. That's bad, really bad.
Honestly, my husband is a sweetheart. He didn't say that to be mean it just kind of popped out in the way that men sometimes do with their verbal communication. Men: think before you speak!
I am pleased to share that my husband has learned from his mistake. He came home the other day with this gift in hand. This is unconnected to any holiday or celebration. This is a "just because I love you" gift.
Believe me, these are worth every single calorie. Every. Single. One.
